I stopped by the boat this morning and am leaning towards a companionway mount on a swivel bracket. That way it's visible to everyone in the cockpit, or whoever is on watch if we're on autopilot. I also sometimes check the radar/cp in the middle of the night when we're at anchor, say if it's blowing or in a crowded harbor or when the tide changes. It would be a lot easier to have it accessible from below when you're not dressed to go on deck.
Dan, not sure which generation broadband you were using, but a recent Practical Sailor tested the 3G and 4G and while not as good at distance as traditional radar, they were pretty good for picking up ships at about 20 and 24 miles, respectively. The real advantage of the broadband here in foggy Maine would be close range in Mussel Ridge Channel and places like that, when you're surrounded by moving vessels (from lobster boats to yachts to kayaks).
