Cost is one issue, complexity really isn't an excuse today.

I think for most conditions, I prefer at the helm if you define the issue as ONLY ONE. The swing out can work, but if you have someone that you want to be your electronic warfare officer, then down below offers warmth -- but when I'm at the helm I really find the display that I can see and manipulate important if you need the radar or chart plotter.
