I rarely motorsail

But I do it when there isn't enough wind and I'm on a schedule, or when a restricted channel or obstruction makes tacking impractical, or when opposing currents and time objectives make it impractical to tack.

The last two reasons were the case that time. As I wrote above, in hindsight I should have changed destination.

We sail more than most, as a percentage. Our boat points well and has good light air performance, and I really dislike extended motoring. That's why I don't see a trawler in our future. It's a beautiful thing when the sails fill and the engine goes silent.
