Steve has it right, run your preventer from the end of the boom...

I think by far the best arrangement is from the boom end up to a turning block at the bow, then back to the cockpit...

What works very nicely is a 2 part setup, a line permanently rigged from the end of the boom up towards the gooseneck. This can then be attached to the rest of the preventer setup when you want to deploy it, and avoids the risk of having to lean out over the lifelines to reach the end of a boom that has already been eased...

I really don't like the idea of preventers run from mid-boom down to the rail or deck, in the event of a jibe, the leverage is SO much greater than if run from the end up towards the bow...

Great post and pic, as always, sounds like MJ was a real trooper out there, what a terrific crew she must be... Looking forward to hearing and seeing more from your cruise, where else besides Cuttyhunk did you get to south of the canal?
