We sailed exactly 80nm out of Port Clyde in 10 hours. Then the GPS flashed 12.1 kts, down a wave, the fun was over.

In this case, preventer is a misnomer.

IF you use a loose footed main, it would be easier for you
Steve has it right, run your preventer from the end of the boom...
