that'w why it took 4 times as long and cost 4 times as much to build as anyone estimated! I have been accused of "an obsession with detail"...
The dinghy is launched and retrieved on a custom built aluminum tilt trailer, runs on rails laminated into the deck (and door). When rolled aft, it automatically stops, is captured so it can't tip overboard, and unlocks the tilt mechanism. Pretty simple really, works kind of like a 2-stage full extension drawer slide, but took some time to work out the details. There are some Delrin steps or hooks at the back of the tilt bed, dinghy has to be pulled up just a bit and the transom hooks on them, tilt axis is designed to be close to the CG of the whole rig so the effort required is modest.
Second picture is the engine compartment - not really big enough to call it a room, though you can climb in there with it if you must. The big red thing to the right is the 7000 watt alternator (280 amps @ 24V), driven with a custom drive shaft off the damper pulley - too big to drive with belts. Last picture is the glamor shot, taken in The Pool off of Georgian Bay. No headsails, but there is a retractable carbon sprit pole to set the asym spinnaker.
Now you know not to get me started talking about my boat.....:)
