Good points, both. RM has done quite a bit of cold molding,

but their mainstay has been conventional plank on frame. I'm amazed how quickly they turn these hulls out, but then speed grinds down as the work left to complete a custom boat, is massive!

I think Fontaine may be hoping the Fontaine 36 they just finished, and this 50 underway, will be pilot boats that may launch a production run. I doubt they're betting the farm on that though. I just don't see a market there for many of either Fontaine. And these boats will still be labor intensive, even in a semi production glass run, so savings will be minor.

The Paine 14 I just posted is the perfect example of using this same one off cold molded method. If there is interest enough in a Paine 14, a production will gear up, and a glass version will be offered at considerable savings(according to the website).

The production run may never happen for either the 14'er, or the 50'er, but this method gets the design, built.
