I think it was three Summers ago...

We were invited to see the reattachment of a keel on a rebuilt BIG sailboat at Wayfarer in Camden, ME. The Fall before a "professional" crew had motored into a ledge at 9 - 10 knots.

The keel and the hull were significantly damaged (I don't know if the boat sunk); but, the aluminum stringer system and hull work the Wayfarer had done was extensive. The new deep keel with it's obligator torpedo bulb which seemed 11-13' under the rebuilt hull and interior was HUGE. The "Park Avenue Boom" waiting to be installed on the 90'-ish spar was pretty impressive too ;^))).

When you talk about forces that a fine keel, you're in a different league when it comes to slamming into a ledge at that speed.

I thought, though am not sure, that the name of the boat was Gernomio, or something like that.
