Nothing like fresh brewed coffee aboard

Two of life's pleasures I look forward to when we're aboard are: 1) fresh ground and brewed coffee in the early morning, and 2) a hot shower after a sweaty day in the sun.

We use an electric burr-mill set to course grind, with a French press. Great results. It's hard to beat a fresh-brewed coffee in the cockpit while the summer sun rises.

The electric burr grinder could run on a small inverter and doesn't need to run long, so it doesn't dent our power budget. We used a glass press but found it let the coffee cool too fast. We switched to a Bodum Columbia Thermal Stainless-Steel Coffee Press that makes 12-cups (about 4-5 mugs) and keeps it warm longer.

This picture was in 2011 leaving Plymouth Harbor on a cool morning.
