First step will be at the reef tacks. I have no horns on the boom. As I recall from two previous boats with jiffy reefing, horns were tedious trying holding the cringle on the hook until the halyard was tight.
As there's no easy place to install horns, why not just splice a hook on one end of a line or webbing and slice a loop in the other end. I'm thinking just long enough to pass around the bronze gooseneck at the narrow spot where the main tack is. The hook could then be brought up either side to snag the reefing cringles. It's weight would hold it in place until the halyard tightened?
To work, it would require the sailmaker to locate the reef cringles at the proper set-back from the mast track.
Then it's just the matter of a couple cheek blocks mounted on the boom for the reefing clews. I haven't worked out how to reeve those; around the boom seems preferred. Thoughts? I don't intend to install a winch as there is a handy topping lift at the mast. Spruce cleats to tie off the lines. Done?
