Remember nothing matters beyond the next couple of quarters. That is the American way. Satisfy the stock holders, make the bottom line look good... then prepare an envelope. (the envelope joke... you know it)
The sad thing is that electronics have changed very dramatically since the vacuum tube days... and even if you have the schematics, the odds of finding certain old transistors or DIP ICs are pretty slim... and if any kind of specialized IC was created for the device (ASIC), that would be nearly impossible to find.
Hence, everything ends up on the electronic trash heap.
