The marlon threaded barb fits the PVC perfectly. The ABS adapter fits the basket perfectly.

The only downside I see is that the SS basket is bad SS... it attracts a magnet. The sink and all the rest of the parts that are SS are non-magnetic.

Eventually I will have the same corrosion in the basket that made it ugly in the photograph below. I'm going to look again at the Defender drain baskets to see what they have in SS. If I have to use that poor SS, I will, as the seals at the sink and the ABS will allow for easy replacement in the future... and the bottom line is that the actual parts below the waterline will all be robust.
