Thanks Larry... but the SS drains are not SS

And yeah, "2 inch" eh? I measured it... the actual opening is just under 2 inches... 1.970 to be exact. The drain basket I bought from the plumbing supply fits it beautifully; now here is the irony... it says "for 2 1/2 inch opening."

This plumbing supply basket drain is beautifully made, very robust, good seals and sealing surfaces, and yet, cheap stainless... a magnet sticks to it like it is iron. I'm gonna end up with the same rusted mess I pulled out of the sink in the first place. The sink IS stainless... no signs of rust, no magnetic attraction... the only rust that existed was where the former drain baskets existed.

The Ambassador and Sandvik marine sink drains for "2 inch" sinks are made of 304 Stainless... and PVC (I hope it is robust PVC... not that crap thin stuff). So on a moving boat, you get plastic and chrome plated plastic, where as at a fixed home bar you get all metal... metal that is not suitable for a marine application, but metal that is sturdy and robust. I just don't get it. Further, the dimensions they show for a 2 inch sink drain... well, it's over 2 inches. (see below) And they are only available if I order the part... so no test "dry" fitting. Just order on faith. Oh well, welcome to the marine world.

I thought Dave said plumbing was easy. GRIN

Below... the dimensions of a "marine 2 inch sink drain opening..." at least according to Ambassador. 2 inches is 2 1/16 inches, according to them. The fun continues.
