Marine plumbing is simple.

It has to flex because your boat flexes. Nothing rigid should ever be used on a boat unless each end of it can flex.
I also don't get how PVC would crumble in your hands. PVC will last forever, and was used in house plumbing for many years before being replaced by PEX, which is ideal for marine applications.
