All the current models (to my knowledge) use conventional fan belts for engine power delivery -- one for the transmission, the other for the primary auger and 2nd stage impeller. The fan belts need periodic adjustment and replacement. The primary auger also uses shear bolts, to protect the mechanicals in case you run over a large stone or frozen newspaper. There is one shear bolt on each side of the auger's central drive differential. So you can shear one side or both. Anyone who owns one should have spare shear bolts on hand, just like carrying a spare tire in your car. That's a quick one-bolt fix.
