We're strictly scanning for traffic with eyes and ears(vhf, and nose helps located lobsterboats 
) I try to sail in the fog if I can and we're comfortable mostly by staying out of shipping traffic. Once your eyes and ears are tuned to the conditions, there's usually more visibility than you may think.
