These are threaded inserts that expand much like a rivit, but they leave behind a threaded hole. Not quite sure if they would work in your situation... as you mention starboard... not sure if they might not work loose in that material.

I have only used these to add threads to thin walled Aluminum, where there just wasn't enough "meat" to actually cut in threads.
