I don't use a boom brake. Instead I have rigged double 4 part tackles that act as preventer, boom vang and main sheet. This gives me complete control of my main under all conditions. The tackles are reeved with a continuous line, so there is only one control line to handle all situations. Works great. This is on a 36' sloop with 300 sq. ft. main.
