We use a Preventer

(really an old block and tackle that I modified w/o the cam cleat) that I can quickly attach to the boom and the perforated toe rail when needed ... and lead it back to a cockpit side cleat ... in the last 12 years I bet I've only used it ... twice ...

... it generally lives in the starboard locker ...

... but I also like to keep my decks clear of crap if at all possible and when sailing downwind in coastal waters (85% of my sailing is in CW's) I rarely ever go DDW usually a good 20-30 degrees off so it almost never see's the light of day ...

... an overrated piece of equipment for us right now ... but if I was "offshore" I might rethink it!

OBTW: That specific piece of equipment you show Dave is waaay overpriced especially compared to a similar item had at any good climber/outdoor retail store ...
