I've spoken to dozens of people who have boom brakes, ours and other designs. No broken booms yet. Only the $20k Leisure Furl on the boat without a brake.

I googled around a bit and found plenty of broken booms, but didn't see any with boom brakes.

If the winds were that strong, imagine crash jibing without a brake. Yikes!
