I thought he was a hell of a writer, as well...

WANDERER was OK, but I was really impressed with VOYAGE - one of my favorite seafaring novels in the great tradition, just wonderful writing and storytelling... A big book in every way, too bad he didn't write more, but he was probably one of those writers who only had that one book in him, anything more likely would have been a disappointment...

Remember, however, he wound up like many old cruisers, rotting away in a marina slip in Sausalito... (grin)
