A portabote can only get so small... so it will never go below... I don't think I have 8 feet of linear flat space below. Even the quarter berth is probably only 7 feet deep.
I figure a small inflatable, with a wooden slat roll up floor... well maybe such an inflatable is something I can at least carry partially inflated on the foredeck. I am thinking to use a small motor and don't expect to plane. Keep it small and simple.
I doubt I have space in the lazerette for a roll up anything. And then there is the fuel... I want something that sips fuel... so I am hardly thinking of a big gas engine. In fact, I don't even like the idea of keeping gas on board. I have strong arms, so the idea of rowing is not too bad... but how far? And under what conditions? Rowing is hardly the best idea for an inflatable.
I wonder if a nesting dink might be a good choice for a small boat? I'll have to look at the space on the foredeck and see if I can fit a nesting dink over the front of the cabin.
Of course the flip side is to go the route of davits, haul a decent sized inflatable or portabote, and savor the convenience. Of course I would still have to deal with storing gas. Sigh.
Just went to Guenevere's site to see what Greg & Jill use... after all, they are living on a small boat. Saw a link to a thing called a "swing lift." Looks like an interesting idea.
Also saw a very nice sea hood and propane storage idea. (thanks Greg) Oh the ideas...
"Oh the places we will go..." (thanks Ted Geisel)
