We have a Gusher installed in the cockpit, pickup in the keel sump (that's our bilge low spot). The hose to the manual pump goes aft through very carefully cut out holes in the stringers that are about 1/8" larger than the hose itself. Everything is glassed over and painted. I hate to break out the holesaw (well, not really) and start cutting holes through nicely sealed stringers. Being used to old Catalina workmanship where you could run any number of hoses and/or wiring looms fore and aft, I am at a loss on how to add an electric auto bilge pump and run wiring or a discharge hose. I am a long time supporter of having an auto bilge pump to act on your behalf when you are away from the boat (even though this is a dry boat you just never know).
My current plan which has not been put into action yet, is to leave the current pickup as is, add a Jabsco or similar remote electric pump in the lazerette locker near the Gusher. Use the intake and discharge from the Whale and plumb the electric. Add just a float switch to the bilge (I think I can snake wires through) and use that to activate the remote pump with a manual/auto selector switch. The Gusher would then be plumbed with a coiled length of hose long enough where the end could be pulled out of the lazerette locker and placed down below into the bilge sump in an emergency, due to power loss to the electric or if additional capacity is needed. That hose would have a debris strainer on it. Then add a second overboard discharge thru-hull for the Whale, I can get to that area of the hull.
