There could be a small genset in our future, 'tis true.
You certainly have been out long enough to know what works for you.
I have talked with a lot of cruisers over time and I have met a lot who love their solar panels. Haven't met any that don't. I see from comments here that longterm durability is a problem. Fewer long term enthusiasts for wind generators.
I've heard very mixed stories about gensets on sailboats. It is possible to have a very quiet genset or generator but never completely quiet. Those little gas generators do have their merits, but gasoline, fumes, and noise are still drawbacks.
I know of quite a few gensets done in by water ingestion. Others, like the Fischer Panda's are a struggle to maintain. It's clear that the installation must be done right.
We'll just see how it works out. Right now, playing with ideas is real cheap entertainment.
