Mcglathery...

Mcglathery Island in Pen Bay on wed night a powerboat Named Northernstar from Chebeague Island comes into the anchorage and proceeds to run their inboard diesel generator during sunset and into the dark hours. Absolutely ruined a peaceful evening especially when we were choking on diesel fumes being now down wind. They then fired it up bright and early and ruined an otherwise peaceful morning. There were four sailboats none of which fired up an engine or generator the entire time they were on the hook.

Friday night a home made looking green steel vessel named DotSea fired up the Honda in a very busy anchorage, not quiet at all, and drowned out everything. Ran it for hours then fired it up again very early in the am. They did shut it down before bed but still ruined cocktail hour..

At Isle Au Haut a Pearson had one running on the deck for about two-three hours, but at least before sun set, but it still ruined the atmosphere so we went hiking. On our way back we stopped by the town landing and could still hear it, so we kept going..

Count me as another one who DETESTS these "so quiet you can't hear them" generators. They are 100% obnoxious as are the individuals who are so selfish as to insist on making everyone listen to them at the WRONG times of day.

How is it that my wife and I can run our main engine for about 1 hour per day and have all the power we need, even with a 4 year old and TV, and other boaters can't seem to be able to figure this out. It feels like they'd rather ruin the peace & quiet of an idyllic anchorage..?

I used to dislike wind gens but some of the new ones are so quiet you can't hear them at all. Was next to a Malo 43 at Frenchboro who had one that was not able to be heard, even when trying to hear it. Took a picture of it as I might want one some day.

Oh and the worst offenders NEVER seem to run an anchor light. You'd think with all that extra current they'd be able to spare some amp hours to comply with the COLREGS.(nl)
