RS-422 to usb for $14

Since NMEA 0183 is using RS-422 protocol and the multiplexer has usb drivers, it must act as a converter.

I was having problems getting the computer to recognize the radar (I know now it was my fault, I used out instead of tlk) so I went to my local Canada Computers outlet to look for a RS-422 to USB converter. One of the guy there told me that someone else came in a while ago asking for the same thing and since they only had Serial (RS-232) to USB converters, they did some research and found that the cheap converter by BYTECC recognized RS-422 inputs (auto-select internally) and worked just fine. I figured that for $14, it was worth trying.

Plugged it in, installed the drivers, connected the right pins to the DB-9 connector (2,3,5,6 and 7), got the radar wizard going and it found the radar on COM4 and went through the 5 minute calibration cycle and completed the installation.

Now my wonder is this: in Nobeltec 7, the radar screen shows the warm up count down (so it registers that the radar is present) and goes to stand by. The scanner won't turn if I select "transmit" and there's no icon to turn it on either. None of the adjustments can be selected under to radar menu. I've done this 5 or 6 time with different timing, windows open/closed, set up COM ports, etc. It warms up and stays in stand by.

I have a few more things to try but please comment.
