I hate them so much that I

did away with them completely. I now have a built in system using a Jabsco Water Puppy pump and a Racor filter with 20 feet of 1/2 in fuel line connected to it. The other end is plumbed directly into the fuel tank. I drop the fuel line into the 5 gallon tank and flip a switch and in about 5 minutes I'm done. I can transfer fuel at sea without opening the fuel cap on deck and never spill a drop. I took a 2 foot section of 3/8 inch copper tube and soldered on a barbed fitting to attach it to the fuel line. I also soldered on a fitting that accepts a cap on the other end. When I'm finished I replace the cap so no extra fuel ever drips from the hose. The copper tube is long enough so that I don't have to worry about the hose not getting into the corner of the tank. It's so easy that I wonder why I didn't do it 20 years ago. I've been doing it this way for the past five years and would highly recommend it to anyone who transfers fuel.
