Corrosion has trashed my ~10 yr old ground strap. Before running new foil through the boat I thought I would give it a heavy layer of Clear Coat, then clean the few areas where there is a connection point after the foil is in the boat. Any reason not to do this?
Also, any suggestions for connecting the foil to the keel bolt? The PO welded a piece of heavy wire to the foil and ran it to a lug that slides onto the keel bolt. I am thinking of taking a SS plate, and drilling one end to slide onto the keel bolt. The foil would lay across the other end of the plate, and a machine screw and fender washer (or square plate) would hold the foil against the SS plate. Perhaps I should be making this out of copper rather than stainless. Any other suggestions for attaching the 3" thin foil to the keel bolt?
Thanks,
Max
