I thought I get your blood boiling first. This is suppose to be funny.

My only thought is if you did not break the gear puller you did not get it tight enough. I broke the first one I had then went out and bought the next bigger and a bigger hammer, got it as tight (pipe on wrench about 36 inches) as I could and hit the screw and it jumped off. Also I would be hitting the screw on the puller as I was applying heat. When it comes loose it will most likely drop off the shaft and hit the ground and break a blade.
