If you are concerned, split the coupling and put a piece of 1/2" ply between the halves...

() A couple of whacks on the shaft shouldn't harm the tranny. You don't have to hit it that hard. When I did it I had to whack the nut three times. I used a bit more force each time until the prop popped off. I used a 3 lb hammer with a 12" handle so I wasn't exactly wailing away on it.

- Once you get the puller in place and
- Use an impact wrench on the puller
- Try them all, one of these ideas will work.
- Recommend more heat.
