And it's not that bad an inlet(I'm fairly confident in there now....). But my worst nightmare on a boat are those places where you're most likely under power(you should be ready to sail...), and you're traveling across strong currents, and jagged hazzards are all around. A quickly deployed anchor may not save you in many of them.
Woods Hole Passage, Hells Gate NYC, most NJ inlets, dozens of spots on the ICW, an inlet out Spanish Wells(can't remember the name), those places that are ready to snap closed on your boat like a bear trap, are etched in my memory. And it's possible, they can become more dangerous with constant use that can make one complacent. Boats go up on rocks close to home.
While people quake at our fog and rock strewn coastline here in Maine, I feel more comfortable floating in water that isn't moving rapidly, in various horizontal directions, underneath my hull.
