Other than three aproaching the tanker, I only count one taken by Captn or crew on Viewfinder. Rest are all tanker crew

Thanks for those, Blye. Good going on everyone involved.

I was thinking what Nan would say if I were taking photos at a time like that.
She'd probably be concerned if you weren't taking photos, Dave.
"If you're going to take pictures, can I steer?"

Different forums have different group opinions. Here's Sailnet on the Viewfinder.
Thanks for the link. I think some missed the point that the first rudder failure was complete. It fell completely off
That boat could have been saved...
I doubt it. That "real sailor" hairy chested stuff is good for cruising adventure books,...:)
I don't know, Tom...
I don't get what this couple has to do with those onboard Viewfinder, Jon.
Consider that for perhaps a good number of sailors...
Well, aside from the fact that they managed to complete the same passage of 2200 NM...
Anyone who's only had one wife and been married long knows
LOL!!! Bang on IMHO and don't forget, there were two green crew onboared that wanted off before the rudder fell off.
Well, then - maybe, just MAYBE...
In addition, Larry - perhaps some men who've had more than one wife/girlfriend/partner have simply learned...
That's another valid point of view, Jon
If momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.
Pass on your only likely rescue, take four lives, and attempt to sail across the Atlantic, with no rudder?
Tom, I've stated from the outset that he made the prudent decision, for he and his crew...
"Prudent decision", sure, you said that, Jon. But look at all your criticism of the man and his crew.
Well, sorry I can't be more effusive in my praise of this brilliantly conceived and executed voyage... (grin)
Thanks, Jon, that's much better.
Another way to pole out the second jib
What really bothers me is the fact this was the third rudder failure
yes, Yes, YES!!!!!......
Mainesail sort of explained the actual scenario.
Designing and building rudders is NOT that tough
I bet this is the attitude the rudder builder(rebuilder) had across the pond.
That is my feeling to Todd. You can't over build it and it's too easy to under build it
You are free to disagree
Agree and disagree
"rudder design and building takes some experience all around to do well", is what I said.
I maintain that a rudder replacement isn't all that hard
If it's that easy, why did the owner have a problem?
I suspect his problem was in two areas...
Lots of speculation here
I suspect you have not visited the...
Hard?
