If it's that easy, why did the owner have a problem?

Taking the "I" route, I thought I would just contact a few people to get the specs and design of the original /cs36 rudder as built sent to me. Then I'd contact a local shop experienced in this work.

Then I thought,...wait a minute,... I sort of recall he may have been on outer islands when this took place? The more I thought about it, the more I realized, I can't put myself in his situation. His problem may have been his location and you can't do much about that.

This rudder while it's called a modified skeg design, looks all spade rudder to me, at least in structure. I would think the stock and frame would be key work, both in design and fabrication. I wonder if that sort of skill is available in the area he was, and if not, was off island work easily abtained? What sort of time frame was he on?

Maybe he knew this rudder work was substandard but was hoping for the best? We can only speculate.
