In Response To: What really bothers me is the fact this was the third rudder failure ()
Before we ever headed out to open water Jill and I talked about rudder failure, and made straw plans on an emergency fix, AND sailing without a rudder.
Yes, we know we could no longer go to weather without a rudder, but that still leaves at least 100 degrees down wind that could be sailed. Granted, it might not be where you WANTED to go, and you might be a bit light on charts for that area, but it sure is better than loosing your home.
Just my 2 cents worth.
