And that's what I was talking about. That would mean you need a haul out. And it would mean putting up with the clunking in my boats case, that would be pretty annoying. I leave the board up except when I need it sailing(there's no clunking when it is working correctly). It wouldn't damage anything, the 3/4" pin would more than take it and that runs through 10" of lead keel.

In the case of an Irwin, I would guess that's a lighter board? Can you get any info on the boat and board and post it?

It's just important that you don't lose the pennant as it's at least an inconvenient haul out. But it should be more than able to survive a parted pendant. (That Catalina design that sinks the boat, that's what I mean about building it like you mean it. )

That's why most of us do a routine replacement. I can't think of any board problems around here, and there are tons of old centerboarders I know of.
