I got stuck a couple years ago on the west coast of Vancouver island coming into an area that was a very large rock garden (Checleset Sound). My chartplotter hiccupped when crossing from one chart scale to another. A quick shuffle of paper and a quick couple of cross bearings and I confirmed my location until the plotter sorted itself out 30 minutes later. It made me a confirmed paper chart guy. I'll take and use the electronic charts but not without paper backup and since paper costs so darn much these days, that's where I'll put my resources when forced to choose.
Disclosure: I, too, did some ocean crossings commercially with a sextant and thus have now revealed my 'inability' to change.....
