If the military isn't using them now that might explain why the cost so much now! I'm afraid to actually use them.....feels like drawing on a work of art!
Ever since I heard that the USNA wasn't even teaching celestial anymore I have wondered what the bridge of a modern US Navy warship looks like underway. We used to have the OOD, junior OOD, helmsman, a crewman manning the Engine Order Telegraph, lookouts and possibly a couple of more. Given that we sometimes would steam (litterally) days and days on essentially the same course on our own watches could be excruciatingly boring.... Even then I thought it would be just as easy for two people to pretty much handle the bridge while cruising independently. Anyone have knowledge of the bridge setup these days underway?
