I was researching a stowable wheel drive.

Raymarine made a good one. Being hydraulic steering the load would be easily doable. The only thing that stopped me was my decision to keep the boat on 'suspended arrest' and keeping everything maintained but not adding any upgrades unless something breaks. It didn't make sense since I was selling her.

Rey and I hand steered from mid Florida to Charleston after the auto pilot broke. Nights were particulary bad as a cloudy sky and a pitch black night gave us no star reference and we had to steer looking at the compass and wind direction 3 deet in front of us. With uncomfortable seas we did 1 hour watches.

Yeah, redundancy is the way to go. We tried to do that a lot on TD.
