I thought that joy stick control would rotate the sail drive? If you use the wheel, with the sail drive in the conventional aft-pointing position, the transmission, throttle, and wheel are functioning as on "normal" boats. You can operate the bow thrusters separately (right, left, or nothing). If you turn-on the autopilot, it is just an normal autopilot. Do you happen to know?
The only reason that I'm familar with the necessity of the computer reboot is if the "Dock & Go" is engaged, in which case the everything is interlocked (and gets blocked-up). Even then, if you turn-off the engine and kill the batteries, you should be able to use the wheel by disengaging the autopilot manually....
Anyway, bizarre and unfortunate. Hope your friend gets the insurance claim sorted-out.
