For me, that plus schlepping are the down-side. It's amazing how much stuff we have to bring even for a weekend overnight cruise. The day sails are easy -- just one or two shopping bags and a small cooler for what we plan to eat/drink. The dog does add a little but his bigger stuff (an extra crate) is aboard. We don't crate him much, but it helps to be able to put him some place safe and secure while the crew is busy, e.g. preparing to pick up a mooring or raise the sails.
This is his typical position while underway. He knows he's got to be a good dog or we'll leave him ashore.
