() I can understand your soreness on snow and sailing after your ordeal in Norfolk. That's why we get out of the water and store, here.
I think you're right, if it's sailing alone you want, then the southeast coast of the US(and your area) are the place to be. Racers especially, perfect sailing area, plenty of wind and open water.
If your sailing desire includes varied destinations with their own allure, you can't beat New England(on this side). The cost is seasonal sailing.
