As a boat builder of composite boats, I got to the point where I would not touch American made plywood, inside or out

of the boat. I even had a dealer try to convince me that some 1/2 ply was real marine- it was 4 ply!!! Guess what the warpage on THAT would be?

Over all, it isn't THAT much more to buy BS1088 Okume, or Meranti, which has ZERO voids, and zero face fills. Particularly if it is being epoxied or glassed over. The American plywood I've seen in the last 10-12 years is crap!! Didn't used to be so, but now it seems so.

On a 22 foot cabin sailboat I built some years ago, I priced Fir Marine, vs Okume. Price difference, on a $22,000 over all (sails, engine, trailer, etc) cost boat? 700 dollars.
