I owned a Chris craft that had that for the cabin top. When we restored her, we use the same. It was great and easy to glass (originally was canvassed).
Easier to paint as well. Made to last outside as sign board.

- No, most US plywood is junk, good for houses only.

- Either one, but HD is worse. I buy at a REAL lumber yard, and last I bought, was actually cheaper
