Our local Hannafords mostly stocks Maine potatoes, but it's easy to see where they all come from. The importance of where they come from varies with the customers. So does the ingredients in what you buy. The trend is to show it all these days. I know I always look at produce origins, it's an enjoyable part of grocery shopping for me.
I'm not immune. I sometimes break down and buy a plumbing fixture or other mechanical part from a big box or similar. I just burned a few bags of Canadian pellets waiting for a Maine ton to be delivered. And we stocked up on some goods at Trader Joes in Portland yesterday.
But I just wouldn't buy potatoes that aren't from Maine nor wood pellets that are trucked from Georgia, even if I could save a few cents. That makes no sense to me when I have the choice of supporting an instate business. Sometimes there's no choice but I enjoy shopping and buying as much locally as I can.
