I still set shutter or aperture with the same effects as film, check and adjust for exposure, go deeper into white bal. etc, etc. Or I can set it auto(I do sometimes for work especially), just like my old film SLR. If I take a poor light shot, too much-too little, it still sucks, there's no saving it, just like film.
Typical intro to digital classes given in town are not much different than the intro to film classes. The basics are the same for the two tools. If anything, there's more to learn with today's dig SLR's.
The big difference is, I don't have to wait for film to be developed or pay for it. Still, great shots don't seem to come any easier for me with digital. Outside of the film out of the equation, I never saw a lot of change in the process of taking photos.
