Hey Tom,
Sure, and relying solely upon celestial navigation alone to find your way to Bermuda required no more "skill" than using GPS, right? (grin)
We've discussed this before, of course, I simply disagree... In my opinion, it took considerably more skill on the part of the great Walter Iooss to follow focus, and absolutely nail, tack-sharp, one of the greatest Super Bowl photographs ever - using a MANUAL FOCUS 600mm Nikkor, shooting in extremely low light @ 1/250/second - than it would using one of today's lighter, image-stabilized Auto Focus telephotos, shooting at a much higher shutter speed...
Of course, modern digital equipment is no substitute an 'eye', or for artistry... But I'm with Dan on this, shooting the far less 'forgiving' medium of slide film, the need to get it right in the camera from the start, made the entire process of shooting film vastly different from shooting digital, at least for me...
best regards,
Jon
