First, I am not talking about multi-day off shore stuff here.
I recently got a C-Map newsletter. In it there is a deal on the PC based planning system.
It got me thinking about how people plan there cruising. It looks like we fall into two groups.
Some people seem to do all of there planning at a shore side home, then go to the boat and plug it into there plotter.
We, on the other hand, decide on the starting point and the destination that we hope to get to. We then go to the boat and plot our day's run to the next anchorage/marina. When we arrive, after dinner or ?? we plot the next days run.
For us, a PC planner would be a waste of $$. After all, I could use OpenCPN if I wanted to.
I feel better inputting and reviewing the next days run the day before doing it, not last week. It gives this old brain less time to forget about any dangers, and the alternate safe refuges. It also lets me take in to account the weather.
What group do you fall into?
