We liked to spread large scale paper on the main salon floor to see the big picture. Chart plotters and computers always gave me tunnel vision. I could zoom out or do a double scale but it wasn't the same as large paper charts.
We had large scale paper charts of everywhere we would go. I'd fold them to fit the nav table and tape it down. If the chart was too big I'd tape it to the salon table. Every couple of hours I'd mark our position, direction (arrow) and speed on the paper with a pencil. We always had the CP going in a closer scale but we really liked having the 'big picture' always available and out so we could reference it.
