As a singlehander who has made the requisite modifications to his own boat, may I suggest the following:
On the assumption that you have a Bristol 30 as shown on listings on Yacht World, you have platform for your winches. You'll need to relocate your primaries to the very aft part of the platform and buy selftailers if you don't already have them. I key principal, in my judgement, is the ability to tack or jibe the boat without moving from behind the wheel. While an autopilot is certainly a great asset, you can't count on them unless they are wind vanes. (I recently had a Raymarine 7001 ram puke half way to Bermuda from New England.) You'll need to see if there will a need for any reinforcement of the platform, but the likelihood is that won't be necessary. An older Raymarine 3000, better that the 4000 in my judgement, plus an used Aries or Monitor Windvane and you can be on your way to preparing to go anywhere...within reason.
