I managed to delete my initial post! I just wanted to thank all of you who chimed in about making modifications to facilitate single handed sailing. A great book resource, wheel vs tiller, moving winches, self tailing winches, autopilots/vanes. Since most of those were posted I've revisited the boat and can see how moving winches after might work. Still, the wheel is just in the way...cockpit really wasn't designed to move around freely with the wheel. And...still yet... there are aspects of the wheel I like. So, armed with some new knowledge of some possibilities I'll sail and evaluate. With luck I'll make it as far as MDI next summer.
